How Spokane & N. Idaho Homeowners Can Get a 30% Tax Credit on Hunter Douglas & Norman Window Coverings

At Coeur Window Coverings, we look out for our clients so they can maximize the value of their window treatments, with quality and real savings. Right now, you can benefit from federal tax credits when you select energy-efficient window coverings in your primary residence.

Here’s what you need to know: what qualifies, how much you can save, and how to claim it.

What Qualifies?

Honeycomb shades from Hunter Douglas

The Honeycomb (also called cellular) shades from Hunter Douglas — specifically their Duette® line — are designed to trap air in the cell structure, creating insulation at the window. According to Hunter Douglas:

  • These select products qualify for a federal tax credit equal to 30% of the purchase price, up to a maximum credit of $1,200 per year.

  • The “purchase price” excludes installation and measurement costs; it’s the amount paid for the product (including sales tax, but excluding labor).

  • The property must be your primary residence in the U.S., not a rental or second home.

  • The product must be installed within the qualifying timeframe and must meet the manufacturer’s certification.

Hunter Douglas explicitly states: “Certain … Duette® Honeycomb Shades … let you earn 30% of the purchase price … up to a maximum annual amount of $1,200.”

Woodlore® shutters from Norman

Similarly, Norman®’s Woodlore® interior shutters qualify under the same incentive. According to Norman:

  • Their Woodlore® Shutters qualify for a federal energy tax credit of 30% of the purchase price (excluding measurement/installation) up to $1,200/year for qualifying years.

  • The certification statement clarifies that the product meets the “Eligible Building Envelope Component” criteria under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, through December 31, 2032.

  • Again: primary residence only.

How Much Can You Save?

  • If you spend, say, $3,000 on qualifying Hunter Douglas shades, you could claim 30% of that: $900. But if you spent $5,000, 30% is $1,500 — however, the credit is capped at $1,200 per year.

  • The same applies for Norman’s Woodlore® shutters: 30% of purchase price up to a $1,200 maximum.

  • These are tax credits, not rebates — meaning the amount directly reduces the tax you owe, dollar for dollar. If you owe less tax than the credit, you won’t necessarily get the leftover as cash. (Check with your tax advisor.)

  • There may also be seasonal or manufacturer rebates/promotions in addition to the tax credit (for example, Hunter Douglas has rebate events).

Steps to Claim Your Tax Credit on Window Coverings

Here’s a practical to-do list for homeowners:

  1. Choose qualifying product – At our showroom we can help you select the right Hunter Douglas Duette® Honeycomb shade or Norman® Woodlore® shutter that is certified for the tax credit.

  2. Make the purchase – For best results, ensure the invoice clearly shows the product cost (not the installation labor) and purchase date.

  3. Save your documentation – Keep your receipt/invoice, installation contract (if separate), manufacturer’s certificate statement for your product and tax year.

    • For Hunter Douglas, there’s a certificate you download for your purchase date.

    • For Norman, refer to their certificate version dated May 2025. Norman® USA

  4. Install in your principal residence – This improvement must be for your primary home (not a rental or second home).

  5. File your taxes for the year of purchase – On form Form 5695 (Residential Energy Credits) you’ll claim the credit. Consult your tax advisor to make sure you’re eligible.

  6. Claim the credit – Enter 30% of the eligible purchase price (up to the cap) as your credit.

  7. Keep records – In case of an audit, keep all receipts, certificates, etc.

Always consult a tax professional — Coeur Window Coverings is not a tax advisor.
