Lake Coeur d’Alene Theater Room: Velvet Drapery & Motorized Blackout Shades

A home on Lake Coeur d’Alene comes with a view worth enjoying. When that home also has a theater room, the window coverings need to help the space transition from daylight to movie time. For this recent project, Coeur Window Coverings installed custom black room-darkening velvet drapery and motorized blackout roller shades, along with a double-sided drapery panel that serves as a room divider.

Custom black velvet drapery for a theater setting

The velvet drapery brings soft texture and full-length folds to the room’s dark interior. Its black color complements the theater setting, while the room-darkening fabric helps reduce incoming light when the panels are closed. Open, the drapery frames the windows and lets the lake view become part of the room again.

Velvet’s appearance changes with the light and viewing angle, bringing out the texture of the folds. In these installation photos, the room lighting gives the black fabric a softer charcoal appearance.

Motorized blackout roller shades

For the roller shades, we used blackout fabric and motorized operation. The blackout material blocks light through the fabric, and motorization makes it easy to raise or lower the shades without adjusting each one by hand. The wall-mounted control keeps shade operation conveniently within reach.

The drapery and roller shades address different parts of the room’s light-control needs. Together, they give the homeowners more flexibility to enjoy the space throughout the day. As with any blackout fabric, the amount of light around a shade’s edges depends on the window and installation details.

A double-sided drapery room divider

One of the custom drapes had a second job: dividing the room. Because this panel is visible from both sides, it was made double-sided to provide a finished appearance from either space. That detail lets the drapery function as a flexible partition while carrying the same velvet look through the project.

This project combined the richness of custom velvet drapery, the convenience of motorized roller shades, and the practical detail of a double-sided divider. Each treatment was selected for the way the homeowners use their theater room.
